People
Palms need land, but the success of a plantation depends on the people running its estates, mills and offices and the goodwill of the communities where it operates.
Our business makes a significant contribution to the local and wider economies where we operate, benefitting the more than 110,000 people who live there. We estimate that more than 20,000 people directly rely on M.P. Evans for income or their livelihood.
The Group employs over 12,500 permanent estate workers, as well as working with contractors who are responsible for the delivery of other services including planting and construction. We have changed our own employment practices to increase the number of workers that are engaged and paid directly by the Group. We do this so that we can offer more stable employment opportunities, ensure that we can develop skills appropriately and take direct responsibility for the people who work for us.
